How To Achieve Best Gas Mileage

With gas prices increasing all over the United States, this matter becomes burning hot in the country, too. Finally Americans joined the rest of the World in a desire to save some gas. Here are some tips from the former car engine designer that can help you to achieve best gas mileage.

- Use landscape to your benefit. If road goes up and down, don’t try to maintain constant speed. Let your vehicle speed up down the hill, so its inertia will help it climb up the next hill, and let the speed decrease slightly while you are going up. Of course you have to coordinate this with the traffic flow, so other drivers don’t get mad at you.

- Optimize your route. The less distance you drive, the less gasoline you use. If you have to go to several places, see how you can route your trip to have the minimum number of miles driven.

- Carpool if possible. Yes, it is tiresome sometimes, but this is the unsurpassed way to save on your daily commute.

- Don’t overuse brakes. The more you brake, the more you have to speed up later, and this costs you more in the end. If possible you want to speed up once, and then drive at the even speed unti you arrive at destination. Of course ideal is not achievable, however the closer you get, the more gas you save.

- Don’t store in the car or truck anything you don’t absolutely need. Check your trunk, glove box, and passenger compartment for belongings that do not have any business being in the car or truck on a permanent basis. This does not save you much (unless you have a habit of driving with the full trunk) - but it does save a bit, and it does not cost anything to implement.

All these tips will not turn your 15 MPG truck into a 40 MPG compact car, but they will help you to achieve best gas mileage possible in your current situation.
